Description: Alla Madonna del Piatto is a small agriturismo - a farmhouse inn bed and breakfast - spectacularly located in the hills surrounding Assisi. This beautiful rural area is blanketed with hardwood forests, Mediterranean vegetation and olive groves.Umbrias beautiful medieval hill towns like Assisi, Gubbio, Todi, Orvieto, Spoleto and Perugia are all within easy reach from Alla Madonna del Piatto, as is Tuscanys splendid Renaissance city Siena and the Chianti wine region. Its geographic location also allows for excursions to Urbino, Florence and Rome. The sunny hillside aspect of the farm, plus double glazing and central heating, means the house is beautifully comfortable for visitors seeking the tranquility of off-season visits. And during the warmer months, the farms setting - 600 metres above sea level - ensures cool nights on even the hottest summers day. The lush, verdant patio is ideal for al fresco picnics on breezy summer evenings. For those who dont mind trading a few hours of sightseeing for the chance to tinker in an Italian kitchen, the agriturismo offers cooking classes in English. A typical half-day session includes a gourmet shopping tour and the preparation of a complete meal with wine. You will soon understand why Italian cuisine is so highly appreciated.

Transportation: Exit at Santa Maria degli Angeli Nord. You will encounter a series of roundabouts. At roundabout nr 2 follow Santa Maria degli Angeli. In Santa Maria degli Angeli drive along the huge church with a golden statue on the top of the facade. Drive straight on, initially along the church, then pass the railway and continue without taking any turn until roundabout nr 5 (approx. 3.5 km 2.3 miles from the Church). Here turn left downhill, direction Perugia (SS 147), you will be soon driving on the Ponte San Vittorino (a bridge close to a bus and camper parking lot). Just after the bridge turn to the right in Via San Fortunato. Do not take sharp right along the parking lot, but take the Via San Fortunato that goes uphill (other signs are for Pieve San Nicolo, Paganzano, San Fortunato). After 5.5 km (4 miles) you will see on your left a small pink house which is adjacent to a larger yellow house. There is a sign above their door that says La Pieve. Continue uphill for less than 1 km (0.7 mile) and turn right into an unpaved road, Via Petrata. There is no other turn between the pink-yellow house and the Via Petrata. If you arrive at the intersection for Gubbio you have missed the turn, go back and take the first unpaved road on your left. In Via Petrata, continue for about 1 km (0.7 miles). Ours is the second house on the right hand side, the first of a white-cream color. Ring at number 37. NB If using a navigator, please search for directions from Assisi, not from Valfabbrica. Please do not exit the highway at Assisi Viole, Assisi Rivotorto, Ospedalicchio or Valfabbrica. The exit Assisi-Santa Maria degli Angeli Nord is well signposted and is the most convenient route to the town and to us.Lat. North: 43 6 660 or 43 06 39.6Long. East: 12 37 527 or 12 37 31.6

Umbria at its best! Wonderful B&B! The hosts made us feel right at home. Alla Madonna Del Piatto sits atop a hill in the beautiful Umbrian hills just outside of Assisi. It fact, we could see the Basilica di San Francisco from our window. We loved everything about this place and only regret that we could stay a week. Our hostess, Leticia, offers cooking classes, but unfortunately I could not convince my traveling companions to participate. Other guests, who did, spoke very highly of the experience. This is a remote location, so you will need car to get there. But it's worth the trip.

Beautiful view, excellent local restaurant, friendly, helpful welcome. Fifteen minute drive to Assisi, partly on one-lane road.

Stunning location wonderful hosts. A real gem of a place to stay. Great to relax after busy sight seeing. The cookery course was excellent and made for a fantastic day. The hosts are full of local knowledge on the best places to go to and eat at. We would highly recommend this place as a great base to visit Umbria.

This bed and breakfast was our absolute favorite in the 3 weeks we spent travelling in Italy. The view of Assissi and the countryside is breathtaking. The peaceful, quiet surroundings are a wonderful respite from the hectic pace of touring. The rooms are spacious and immaculately clean. Letizia, the owner, is a jewel. She goes beyond what would be expected to make guests welcome and comfortable. She referred us to local restaurants that were very good and not on the tourist route. I loved this place.

After enjoying the sincere hospitality of our hosts, the comfort of the place they have created, and the beauty and serenity of its surroundings, I'm sure we'll be their guests many times again. It was The Best of all the places we stayed in Italy.

This is a beautiful, beautiful place and our hostess, Letizia, was kind and very helpful. I took her cooking course which was great fun and a wonderful learning experience. Directions are a bit hard to follow but I would highly recommend this agriturismo to anyone traveling to Umbria. It was one of the highlights of my trip!

Located on a hill oposite to Assisi this b+b is perfect for everybody who wants to get out of the city and into the green. It can only be reached by car but the silence is worth the way. Very friendly welcome and all necessary information was freely given to us.

This was the highlight of our 22 day trip. The location was breathtaking. [You do need a car to get there.] The rooms were very clean and tastfully decorated. The breakfast was tasty offering coffee, juices, cereals, yogurt, toasts, etc. The public aeras were warm and inviting. We had tea and coffee on the patio outside, upon arrival, and watched the sun setting from our perch above the town of Assisi. The beautiful surrounding country side was peaceful, quite and a welcomed change from our hectic times in the Naples area. As if this wasn't enough, the owner and our hostess, Letizia Mattiacci, was the icing on the cake. Her bubbly personality and the expressive manner in which she brought life into every conversation, brought a smile to our hearts. Letizia teaches cooking classes in addition to running a first clss B&B. We were fortunate to have her prepare a meal for us, at our request, the night before we left. [I would not have know that was possible except for the comments of a previous traveller who mentioned it in her comments on the venere.com site.] Letizia was very helful in helping us secure our passports from the previous hotel at which we stayed. She directly intervened on our behalf and arranged for them to be sent by courrier to our next location. She provided good suggestions on places to eat (although her meal was the best we had in the area), cities to visit and attractions to see. Letizia is the most unforgetable person I met in Italy and the first one that I will think about when anyone mentions Italy.

Beautiful place in a setting that was even more spectacular (and peaceful) than web photos indicated. Host was extraordinarily helpful in suggesting areas to visit and local restaurants, and her advice was absolutely right. She clearly loves what she does, and loves Italy (and who wouldn't?).
