The price of the hotel is high so one should expect 5 star service and amenities and a larger than average room size. Overall the hotel delivered. the location of the hotel is ideal, right at the dam centre, a short 5 minute walk to the main train station. Right in the centre of all the activity.

The location could not have been better, but the accommodations were definitely not 5 star. The room was small and cramped.

Great location, very convenient to access all touristy places in town. However, the lobby is small and can not accommodate the huge traffic this hotel has. It seems that the hotel is permanently understaffed: for a hotel with more than 300 rooms there were usually only 2 people at front desk. Buffet breakfast was superb. At 25 euros, great value for money.

My stay was fabulous! I travel 11 months out of the year and seldom get to travel for pleasure. This hotel was a treat for me. The room was comfortable, the staff helpful, and they gave a wonderfully thoughtful welcome gift (a mobile phone charger). One downside was the room service menu was a bit limited. I wanted a plain cheeseburger but all they had to offer was a Burger with trimmings I was not interested in for 27 euro. I guess you would expect that price in a 5 star hotel but I thought there should have been something a bit more reasonable. I had a bank of lights that did not work in the room. I did not report it to the Front Desk. I would have thought they would have just worked; it did not impact my stay for I left it alone. The location was amazing, literally in the heart of the city. I did not need to travel far to get or do anything. This was hotel was truly as treat.

I got mad. Ask for a taxi to the airport and the receptionist told me I could pay at hotel 43 euros and when I check-out the other receptionist told me that I have to pay the driver and when I got there he said it was 45 euros because I was paying in my credit card. I hate the NH service! the works do not feel like working at all! Today the was a group blaming on them.

Good location; solid hotel, but not a 4-star; air conditioning was weak so room was warm; lighting wasn't very good.

A perfectly functional and clean hotel in central location. I am not sure that I would rate it any higher than a 3 star (on the European scale), but it's a solid 3 star.

Overall, the hotel was great. Unfortunately we were parked on the road and the clerk that checked us in told us it was ok to park there. It ended up costing us a 50 Euro fine and 100 Euro to the towing company for attempting to remove the vehicle. This was very disappointing since the hotel clerk told us we could park there.

This hotel has rooms that vary widely in quality. Although roomy and reasonably comfortable, they are in dire need of renovation, with broken fixtures, some rust, a very small television, etc. Internet service is ridiculously expensive. Everything considered, these rooms are probably 3-star rooms in other hotels in the area.

They took way to long to check-in and check-out. They had a lot of people who could care less that you were waiting. The rooms were small and in the bad part of the hotel. My room was definitely not 5-star.

After we checked in (which was an ordeal), then everything else was great! The location was wonderful, we set outside at a nearby bar many nights having dessert and enjoying the atmosphere of the square.

Extremely unfriendly service at arrival - promises (about fixing things that did not work) not delivered as promised. Fantastic location in the middle of Amsterdam and overall good facilities. In short, a mixed experience.

I was worried about some of the reviews I read but was happy with what we got. Three couples and to get three rooms together they upgraded us. They were smoking rooms but did not smell bad at all. Again this is Europe and should be expected. Smoking is not just cigs, pot is legal here and you can smell it! But location for what we wanted to do was perfect, two blocks from the red light district and a little bit further to the train station.

The hotel was very nice and was in a great location; however, I would not rate it as a 5-star hotel.

This hotel is located right where the action is- downtown Amsterdam bordering the red light district. I would recommend this hotel to all who like quality and convenience. A five minute brisk walk to the train station. There are at least 15 restaurants along the street the hotel borders. Can't get a better breakfast-brunch for 25 euro at the "Winter".

This hotel is located directly on DAM Square and is within a few short blocks to Magna Plaza, Kalvestraat Shopping Street, Red Light District, Madam Tussauds, Central Station, Canal Boats and a large compliment of pubs and restaurants. The lobby of the hotel is vintage 5 Star with a large uniformed staff, beautiful atrium eating area, lobby cafe and separate bar with a very nice almost exclusive atmosphere. The room was nice, good size and well apointed although we upgraded to an executive room. We will return again.

Have stayed there over 40 times in a 5 year period, mainly stayed in the sun wing, the re-furbished rooms with the steam showers and sitting room are excellent, would always recommend asking for one, preferably try and get a free upgrade

The location is absolutely wonderful. You walk out onto Dam Square and can walk wherever you want to go. The hardest part is driving there. We ended up following a taxi up on to the sidewalk and driving across trolley tracks. I still don't know another way to the hotel! Once you are there, you don't need your car again.
