This turned out to be an excellent hotel. We were unsure what to expect but were welcomed warmly on arrival. Our room was large with a very comfortable king sized bed. The facilities were clean and more than adequate. Breakfast was well thought out and very good, many choices. Close to the rail station, an inexpensive cab ride. Easy walking distance to the Piazza Maggiore. Welcoming of Americans. All front desk staff we encountered spoke many languages and were helpful. Would stay here again.

The University is a very nice hotel. THe price we received on Venere was below the market rate and they honored our reservation with no questions. The room was very nice and spacious (the bathroom was huge). There was breakfast downstairs and a little lounge, but our room was so big we didn't need them. The front desk was very helpful and had a great map of the city that was all we needed. Air conditioning and climate control were perfect and responsive. We ate one of our favorite dinners of our whole vacation just a couple of blocks away. For the price we paid, the hotel was an absolute steal and Bologna was a great place to explore in a weekend (when we weren't too busy eating and drinking - everything in the guide books about the quality is true). It is just a short walk from the train station. Once you locate Via Independenza (an insanely busy street), it's about 15-20 minutes.

We had some problems finding the hotel, very small one-way street. Busy trafic around the hotel and very hard to find parking. But once we got there, the hotel was excellent. Very close to historical center.

Before booking the room I checked the reviews and they talked about noise, but I did not hear any noise. The only thing was, after a day shopping (and already checked out) I asked if we could use the shower, and it was not possible. The neighbourhood of the hotel is really nice and lively. I can really recommend this hotel if you are in Bologna.

Good value for your money...and very centrally located. Upon first sight, the area looks shady, but you'll find its full of college students and life. Nice area...great bars near by. This city is full of hipsters.

Overall this place isn't bad to stay at for the price. Fairly clean, lots of closet, AIR CONDITIONING, decent breakfast, tv, bathroom with amenities (hair dryer, soaps etc). Quiet and you can really block out sun if you need. The area is ok- about 10-15mins walk from termini (train station). Close to university area. Not bad for the price.

We had a great stay at this place! Lots of small, excellent and inexpensive restaurants in the neighbourhood. Very caring staff. The surroundings are not exactly quiet but I guess if u are going to Bologna - your not going there for the sleep..:-) Do not miss the bar located in the same building. Wonderful place with friendly staff. We're coming back!

We found this hotel a little smaller than we had hoped, but perfectly adequate. The rooms were okay, but not very large. Good service but not great, and the breakfast was not as good as we had hoped. They did have h/b eggs (one of which was, unfortunately, a rotten one, but the waitress immediately replaced the entire bowlful that was out on the table). it was certainly quite central and we were able to walk to all the sites we were interested in with ease. Bologna is a fascinating city.

We were already in this nice little hotel two years ago. This time also we were very satisfied with our room which was small but nicely furhished. Forn such a good price it is not easy to find such an accomodation!! Also the neighborhood is nice full of restaurants and shops. We will always go to Hotel University when we need to stay in Bologna.

The Hotel University was recommended to me by friends who had stayed there in the spring of '05. Overall, for Bologna, it is a good deal and a quality establishment. The breakfast included with the room is good (great self-service coffee/cappucino machine!), though the breakfast room is rather small and can get crowded. My room had been recently redone, and was very pleasant, though the TV and the hair dryer weren't working. Fortunately, I didn't need either. The only real drawback for some guests might be the noise at night from the street and the bar/disco located on the ground floor on one side of the hotel (try to get a room over the hotel's entrance if you want more quiet at night). I had been warned about it by my friends, and with ear plugs, it wasn't impossible. Location is good, in university area, and walking distance to the center.

Arriving from Venice by train, the hotel was an easy to find 15 minute walk away. Our room was nicely appointed and the bathroom the largest of the the four hotels on our trip. The rooms fridge did not work and apparently hasn't in a some time. The staff didn't seem interested in addressing the situation. The hotel is located at the edge of the Univesity district within an easy walk of all sites. My biggest complaint was the noise. At night there was constant banging and we couldn't tell (I know this sounds strange) if there was a party next door, in the next building, or in the street. Even at the reasonable price of 75 euros a night, I would probably not stay there again.

The hotel's location is perfect for exploring the historic section of Bologna including the University. Beautiful interior facility and nicely furnished rooms. Breakfast was excellent. Superior accomodations, especially for the price.
