Description: The Villa dei Misteri Motel is located on the edge of the archeological area of Pompeii. The ancient city's main entrance (Porta Marina) is only 150 metres from us. The modern city's centre is only 2 km (less than a mile) away.

2 important means of transportation, the Circumvesuviana railway line and the A3 Napoli-Salerno highway, are nearby (150 and 300 metres). This makes the Motel Villa dei Misteri an ideal starting point for trips to the Sorrentine peninsula, the Amalfi Coast, the Mount Vesuvius area and Naples.

Overview: Just 5 minutes from the archaeological site, this hotel takes its name from the ruins of an ancient Pompeiian villa located on the same street.

The villa is known for a fresco portraying the initiation rites (or "mysteries") of the Dionysian cult. The hotel's relaxed family atmosphere has made it especially popular among archaeologists and architecture schools. It is also perfect for anyone who wants to visit the area away from the city traffic within easy reach of major transportation points.

The pool is in the shape of a classic vase and is 25 metres (83 feet) long. A long sun deck stretches above the pool. During the summer, part of the sun deck is used by the restaurant for outdoor dining. A small meeting room, seating up to 40 people, can be used to gather before visiting the archaeological digs or as a classroom.

Rooms: Single Room B&B -

Double Room B&B -

Triple Room B&B -

Dining: The restaurant is available for lunch from 12:30 to 14:30 and for dinner from 19:30 to 22:30. Cookery is typical of Neapolitan tradition. In summertime, food is served on a terrace that surrounds the pool.

Wait servers in the restaurant were below standard, deciding what parts of our order they thought should be served (I kid you not). No wait staff understood any English at all. In a hotel/restaurant serving an international clientale, some English, related to menu and service, should be required. Location to the Pompeii ruins was great and for that it is just fine.

We used this as our last stop before flying out from Naples the next morning. It was a good base to explore the ruins - only 300m down the road - however, the area is a bit seedy! There are no frills here - you get what you pay for and you have to pay extra for the air conditioning.

This place is great. It is the only hotel which is right at the entrance of the ruines. There is a nice swimming pool and the room was nice, especially the bathroom. The service was very good, they even had a little late time snack for us next to the pool around 10pm. Fruits and punch were available for free. There is no doubt I recommend this hotel to anybody going to visit the ruins. The price/quality ratio is excellent and so accessible.

I can't fault this hotel. The staff were without exception friendly and helpful, the rooms had balconies, the pool and surrounding area were great, even the evening meal and breakfasts were excellent. The location is perfect for everything from Naples to the Amalfi coast, and Pompeii Scavi is right across the street. My family (wife, 3 kids 8, 13 &16) and I would love to go again.

A bit tricky to find even though we knew it was going to be tricky. The hotel's pools was a great especially since the day temperature was in the 90's. A must stay if you have kids. Located in walking distance from the ruins was a plus. Staff was wonderful and helped us call the US "even during the World Cup". We will defintely stay again if in Pompei!

After some hectic days in Rome we went to see Pompei. Tired, we arrived at the hotel with a beautiful pool where we spent the afternoon. The dinner was really good, traditional food cooked with a lot of love, and so was the breakfast.

Lovely hotel/B&B. Excellent location for walking to the ruins. The best breakfast we were served in our tour of Italy. The room key must be inserted into a slot to turn the lights on. The pool is heated by the sun. It wasn't warm enough to swim during our stay but very nice to sit around. We didn't realize there was a restaurant on the property. It's somewhat secluded. Both rooms we booked had lovely balconies.

Accommodations were very adequate. Room was clean. People were very helpful in figuring out train schedules and providing information about Pompei Scavi.

All in all it was a cheap hotel and one shoudn't expect more. Walls are paperthin and I wouldn't want to stay in the hotel when it is fully booked. We booked B&B for 2 nights. We didn't join breakfast because it was served only from 8.30 to 9.30. At 10.30 we asked if we could get just a cappuccino instead. When checking out we had to pay for this cup! (Which we had instead of 2 breakfasts!!). I find this is ridiculous and shows the level of the hotel. Location is good, one can walk to the historical scene of Pompei and parking is free. But we wouldn't stay again.

The hotel is well worth the price and is in an excellent place for seeing the ancient city. The hotel is also exactly as the pictures show, no hidden surprises. The local detailed map is also useful though it could show a bit more area and include a few more street names. Be forewarned, Via Villa dei Misteri is not well marked. Just as you turn off of SS18 the entrance to the A3 autostrade is on the left and a campground is on the right. Via Villa dei Misteri is the small road that seems to turn left and go behind the autostrade toll booths. For those coming in by train be aware that Pompei has at least two stations. The main one is in town about 2 km away.
